The main digester pit is made as a brick lined cylindrical hole in the ground. The floating gas drum is made of steel and is designed to move up and down as gas collects and is used. It also is designed to rotate about a vertical axis at the centre of the cylinder.

KVIC designed these plants for use in India. A standard plant was supposed to generate 100 cu.ft a day (2.83 m3) and had an internal volume of 7.1 m3.
